Making a positive difference in an individual’s life is one of the most rewarding parts of working within care.

We are looking for someone who has contributed to someone’s life, whether it be helping them overcome a challenge, encouraging them to develop their skills in a certain field or guiding them throughout their care.

Passion

  • They don’t just stop at providing care, they want to help the individual reach their potential and are willing to exceed expectation in doing so

Empowerment

  • Encouraging and supporting the individual in the development of their skills or obstacles

Respect

  • Ensure that they are making a difference that the individual wants to have taken place, respecting their dignity and choice

Collaboration

  • Every difference made is a collaborative effort between the staff member, the individual and their close relatives

Making a Difference Award

A Support Worker plays a vital role in ensuring the people we support are living rewarding and fulfilling lives.

We are looking for individuals who go above and beyond in the support they provide, have raised the bar in care and have shown initiative and dedication in their role on a regular basis.

Passion

  • Evidence that shows they are dedicated in their role as a Support Worker
  • Uses initiative and goes ‘the extra mile’ for the individual

Empowerment

  • Encourages independence and gives the individual opportunities to reach their full potential
  • Supports the individual achieve their goals and ambitions as much as possible

Respect

  • Allows the individual to make key decisions
  • Respects the individual’s privacy and doesn’t let their disability stop them from growing

Collaboration

  • Has shown initiative by incorporating ideas and suggestions from family members and other key members in the individual’s life
  • Interact with the individual using specific verbal, written cues that meets their needs
  • A real team player

Support Worker of the Year

  • Each member of the team should have the ability to voice their opinions and ideas on how the care provided can be enhanced

Residential Care Team Award

Settling into a new environment can be a challenging yet exciting time for new starters and we’re looking for those who have fitted in seamlessly into their role and have been able to successfully transition their skills to their new role.

Whether you’re a Support Worker or a Manager, who has started their role in the last 12 months, we want to know how you have played an integral role in the care provided and have also developed in the short time you have been at your service.

Passion

  • Has actively been looking to develop their skills and knowledge of care
  • Have successfully developed a bond with the individuals they support

Empowerment

  • Have taken their new role and responsibilities on board successfully
  • Have shown commitment in overcoming any challenges they have faced

Respect

  • Have shown the individuals we support the respect and dignity they deserve
  • Has treated fellow staff members with respect and have built a good relationship with them

Collaboration

  • Have settled into their new service and are working well with their new team or staff members
  • Have successfully built a mutually trusting relationship with the individual they support

Newcomer Award

It takes a team effort to become the best provider of care and support in the UK, and within those teams, there is a well-run support function that can provide effective support to the individual and even our staff.

We want to see a team / function that goes the ‘extra mile’ and exceeds the expectations within their role,

This category is open to all our staff and is not inclusive of just Support Workers / care teams, if you are responsible for a certain function within a department, you can be eligible to enter this category.

Including but not limited to, payroll, recruitment, administration and other

Passion

  • Has consistently shown a high level of performance in their role
  • Can evidence how they have gone the ‘extra mile’ to improve the lives of the people we support or our staff

Empowerment

  • Their role and duties should have a knock-on effect on the lives of the people we support and our staff – how can you evidence this?

Respect

  • Everyone involved in the support function works together in ensuring the individual is shown the respect and dignity which is expected
  • Everyone involved is well mannered and respectful of the rights of our staff and the people we support

Collaboration

  • The support function works together in ensuring tasks are conducted and completed at the highest level

Managers play a vital role in managing the complex nature of care services, and we are looking for managers who have shown exceptional leadership skills on a day-today basis and have successfully guided the service to providing high quality care.

• How do you put the care of both the staff and the people we support at the forefront of your operations?

Empowerment

• Has encouraged staff to develop their skills and knowledge of care
• Can demonstrate that the people we support are living rewarding and fulfilling lives

Respect

• Can evidence their commitment to dignity and privacy for the people we support
• Can demonstrate how they support their staff and nurture them to fulfil their full potential within the service

Collaboration

• Encourages active participation from both the perspective of their staff and the people we support
• Can show they delegate tasks successfully and allow other staff members to flourish with more responsibility
