COVID-19 Update: Indian Variant

As a result of the ever-changing conditions of COVID-19 we wanted to provide an update in relation to the new Indian variant. Whilst we remain positive of the progress being made through the vaccination program, it is important to remember that the situation can change at any time. As a business, we will continuously monitor the situation and take the necessary action to ensure our colleagues and the individuals we support remain safe.

Recently, local guidance was updated on GOV.UK to reflect the new sources of risk with the Indian variant. This information can be found at (COVID-19) Coronavirus restrictions: what you can and cannot do – GOV.UK (

The eight locations with high levels of this new variant have been identified as:

Bedford Borough Council

Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council

Bolton Metropolitan Borough Council

Burnley Borough Council

Kirklees Council

Leicester City Council

London Borough of Hounslow

North Tyneside Council

The new COVID-19 variant spreads more easily from person to person. To help stop the spread, you should take particular caution when meeting anyone outside your household or support bubble.

The Government have issued guidance for these areas.  It is important to note that local restrictions are not being imposed at present.  The guidance advises:

  • to meet outside rather than inside where possible;
  • keep 2 metres apart from anyone you do not live with; and
  • minimise travel in and out of the area.

How does this current situation affect our colleagues?

Guidance suggests you minimise travelling in and out of affected areas unless it is essential, for example for work. For our colleagues working within a service please ensure you continue to exercise caution and participate in LFD testing as well as wearing PPE.  It is important to ensure you remain at home in the event that you experience symptoms and take a PCR test.

For those working from our head office locations, we would encourage you to continue working your allocated schedule as agreed with your line manager.  Please ensure that you follow guidance including regular handwashing, wiping down of desks, opening windows in meeting rooms and wearing a face covering when moving around the office.

What happens if you live within one of the named councils above?

If you live within the above councils, we would suggest you speak with your line manager if you have any concerns.  We would remind you that the guidance is suggestive and not mandatory.

You can check your home postcode at Find your local council – GOV.UK ( for clarity.

If you live in affected areas you may be offered the vaccine significantly earlier than predicted. Visit Coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine – NHS ( for further information.

Finally, if you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact or talk to your line manager.
